ArgoSoft Time Service

The Windows XP time service leaves much to be desired, and, of course, it is not available on Windows 95, 98, ME or 2000.

Because of this, I found it expedient to find another time service. The one provided by a company called ArgoSoft is excellent. It works on Windows 2000 and XP (not 95, ME or 98).

You can get it from the ArgoSoft web site. Download it to your computer and install the program.

This will cause a new control panel to be installed called ArgoSoft Time Synchronizer.

As you can see, there are a few additional options, including the update frequency and protocol (as well as which time server to use).

If you have a few systems, you can install the ArgoSoft time server on one system and configure all of your other systems to get the time from it. Thus, the time server will get the time from the internet. This is useful on an intranet, where you may not want (or may be prevented by a firewall) every system going out to the internet for the time.
