Cause Notepad to Remember Settings
Important note: These registry changes are provided as examples of how these parameters might be changed. Be sure you have a complete backup of your registry and an up-to-date ERD (Emergency Repair Disk) before you make any changes. The Registry editor can make your system unusable, so be careful! I don't know about you, but when I change an application's settings, I would like it to remember them each time it is used. I hate setting things over and over - in fact, that's a good reason to switch to another application.
Notepad is one of those simple, easy-to-use programs which is so useful it's hard to do without. Microsoft has done well to leave this application alone, to leave it simple.
The program has the annoying habit, though, of forgetting it's settings. To cause it to remember you can set some registry settings.
To enable this feature, start up the registry editor and navigate to the following key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad
If the value "fSavePageSettings" exists, then double click it and set it to "1". Otherwise, right-click on the right pane and select "new" and "DWORD Value".

Enter the name "fSavePageSettings" and press the enter key, then double-click "fSavePageSettings" to modify the value. Enter "1" to cause the settings to be saved, and "0" to cause them to discarded upon exit.
